Gillette Soccer Saturday anchorman Jeff Stelling is contemplating retiring from the demanding show after a glittering career as a presenter, according to the Daily Star.
The 62-year-old has been in the game nearly 40 years and has become a staple feature in England's football broadcasting.
The renowned Hartlepool fan is said to be keen on a life of sunshine away from the hectic Sky Sports match day studio.
He said: “I don’t know how much longer I’ll do presenting. I’ve done it for 40 years.
“I am not sure how long it will go on for. I might want to put my feet up. I am getting on – the next decision will be retirement.”
The father-of-three started off as a football reporter for Radio Tees before making his way up the ladder, but is set on a life in Portugal with his family.
He said: “I want to stick my feet up on the beach. We spend as much time as we can in Portugal when it isn’t the football season. I love it there. I’d be very happy to spend a bit more time out there.”
Stelling also went on to confess that due to the nature of the Saturday show, he has become a target for certain fans.
“Every football supporter thinks you dislike their team. It’s something that goes with the territory. It is not true, of course. I try to be as neutral as possible.”
The charismatic presenter has given us some joyous moments over the years and 3 pm kickoffs just simply will not be the same without him.
