Everton and West Ham have been given the opportunity to sign former Liverpool star Gini Wijnaldum after he was reportedly put on Paris Saint-Germain’s exit list.

Wijnaldum made 237 appearances for Liverpool during a five-year spell at Anfield. He helped the Reds win several trophies, including the Premier League and Champions League.

The central midfielder left last summer after running down his Liverpool contract. He went on to sign for PSG on a free transfer.

However, Wijnaldum’s time in the French capital has not gone to plan. He couldn’t replicate his Liverpool form for PSG last season and was often used as a substitute by Mauricio Pochettino.

PSG are now in a era following the sacking of Pochettino and the hiring of his replacement, Christophe Galtier. And it doesn’t look like Wijnaldum will play any part over the next few years.

According to the Daily Mail, who cite French outlet L’Equipe, Wijnaldum will not travel with the PSG squad for their pre-season tour of Japan.

He is on the club’s ‘undesirable’ list, which also includes Mauro Icardi, Julian Draxler and Layvin Kurzawa. Ander Herrera, Idrissa Gueye, Rafinha, Sergio Rico and Junior Dina Ebimbe make up the group of outcasts.

The nine players have been put on the transfer list by PSG officials, forcing them to search for new clubs prior to next season.

Gini Wijnaldum a target for three Prem teams

And this could allow Everton or West Ham to pull off a transfer coup by bringing Wijnaldum back to the Premier League.

Both teams reportedly want to sign him, alongside Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City.

Wijnaldum still has two years left to run on the three-year contract he signed when joining PSG in 2021. This means the Ligue 1 champions can charge a fee for him, although it shouldn’t be massive due to him being 31 and past his prime.

Wijnaldum would be a stellar signing for Everton, West Ham or Leicester to complete. On his day, he is a top midfielder who has bags of experience in Europe and on the international stage with the Netherlands.

Things haven’t gone well for the Rotterdam-born star in France, but he could thrive if he came back to the Prem.

However, it may be tough for the three interested sides to complete a deal. Wijnaldum will want to play for one of Europe’s top teams if he does have to leave PSG.

Everton, West Ham and Leicester are not at this level. They could struggle to convince him to sign without the offer of trophies or big wages.

Everton face another issue in the form of Liverpool. Wijnaldum has a great relationship with Reds fans and will not want to spoil it by joining their rivals.

As much as the English trio hope to land Wijnaldum, it is likely he will reject their advances if a PSG exit does occur this summer.

Meanwhile, Everton and West Ham have found out where Chelsea striker Armando Broja wants to play next.
