Gio van Bronckhorst lands new job as ex Rangers boss returns after almost two years out

Gio van Bronckhorst is back in football after landing the Besiktas job.

The former Rangers manager hasn't worked since his sacking from Ibrox in November 2022 and has been linked to different vacancies in that time, including some in his homeland of the Netherlands. But none of them came to anything, until now, with the 49-year-old heading for Istanbul.

The Dutchman signs a two year deal with the option of an extra year, and takes Jean Paul van Gastel and Serdar Topraktepe as his assistants. The Turkish Super Lig outfit confirmed the appointment with a statement, which reads: "As a result of detailed studies carried out by our Board of Directors regarding the new term structuring, Dutch Giovanni van Bronckhorst was appointed as the Coach of our Football A Team.

"Jean Paul van Gastel and Serdar Topraktepe will be the assistants of Giovanni van Bronckhorst, with whom a 2+1 year agreement has been reached. Additional information will be provided regarding the signing ceremony of our new Coach. We wish success to Giovanni van Bronckhorst, whom we believe will provide important services to our club, and we present it to the public."

Van Bronckhorst shared his delight at the news on his own social media channels, saying: "Very honoured to be part of the Beşiktaş family now. See you soon in Istanbul!"
