Giorgi Mamardashvili Liverpool shirt number options as dream jersey available
Giorgi Mamardashvili has several jersey numbers available to him upon his expected arrival at Liverpool - but he might have to wait a while.
Mamardashvili, one of Georgia's heroes at Euro 2024, which saw the country crash out to eventual winners Spain in the Round of 16, is set to join the Reds on a permanent deal this summer before returning to Valencia on loan for the 2024/25 campaign.
Liverpool is yet to make a signing under new manager Arne Slot and Mamardashvili looks set to be the first - but won't play for the Dutchman straight away while Alisson remains in his post.
Mamardashvili will have several jersey numbers to choose from: The No. 6, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 23, 27, 29, and 30. But it may be an easy decision for the goalkeeper, with the No. 25, which he wears for Valencia and Georgia, still available at Anfield.
Gary Neville gives honest verdict on Arne Slot's first Liverpool Premier League game
Giorgi Mamardashvili will not join Liverpool this summer despite signing for Arne Slot
The Reds got off to a winning start under slot, defeating newly-promoted Ipswich Town away from home in the Premier League opener. Diogo Jota and Mo Salah got the goals for Liverpool, whose squad is largely unchanged from the previous campaign.
"I inherited a very good team and very talented players but these players have to understand it is not enough what they brought in the first half," said Slot afterward. "We lost far too many duels in the first half. We didn't cope with that well enough.
"I didn't see them fighting for it in the first half, we lost almost every long ball. In the second half, they were ready and then we opened up and you could see we can play quite good football."
Slot has been described as clinical by Manchester United, England, and Premier League legend, Gary Neville. "I think he was clinical, making the substitution at halftime. I don't have a problem with that but he was also quite matter-of-fact about it after the game," Neville said on Monday Night Football.
"It also looks like he's being flexible and adapting because first half, forget the duels they were losing he mentioned, they were obviously playing a different way," he continued, as he highlighted the coach's tactical flexibility. "They expanded the back four, they've gone wide. He's obviously willing to adapt."
The Reds will play their first competitive home game of the new season on Sunday. Slot and his players will welcome Brentford to Anfield, who are high off a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace last weekend.
Liverpool.com says: The Reds' succession plan for life after Alisson is clear and it's refreshing to see such forward planning. However, Liverpool could've done more in this summer transfer window despite Arne Slot inheriting a talented squad.
