Giorgi Mamardashvili sent a timely message to Liverpool as he shone yet again for Valencia.

The goalkeeper will arrive at Anfield next summer after completing a deal to join the Reds during the most recent transfer window. Liverpool signed the 23-year-old in a deal worth up to $39m (£29m/€35m), although he will remain with Valencia this season.

The Spanish club will no doubt be pleased to still be able to call upon Mamardashvili’s services, with the Georgia international once again showing his capabilities against Girona on Saturday.

As per LaLigaExtra on X, Mamardashvili won the MVP of the Match award for his performance as Valencia beat Girona 2-0 – the second time this season that he has picked up the award.

Mamardashvili made three important saves to help Valencia over the line, including a superb stop to keep Gabriel Misehouy’s header out after goals from Luis Rioja and Dani Gomez.

Mamardashvili’s heroics helped Valencia to its first league win of the season, although they still remain in La Liga’s relegation zone with just four points from their opening six games. They will no doubt need their goalkeeper to maintain his fine form throughout the rest of the season as they tried to avoid dropping out of the Spanish top flight.

His form will no doubt be catching the eye of his future employers at Anfield as well, especially after another injury setback for Alisson Becker.

Caoimhin Kelleher had to step in for the Brazilian against Bournemouth on Saturday, and produced some excellent saves to keep a clean sheet in the 3-0 win. With the Irishman admitting he wants to leave Liverpool next summer though, Mamardashvili will likely be left to battle it out with Alisson for the No.1 spot next year.

Liverpool.com says: It will be interesting to see what happens in Liverpool’s goalkeeping department next season. Clearly, Kelleher has his sights set on a move away from Anfield in order to become a No.1, but could Alisson follow him out of the exit door?

It would have been unthinkable not long ago that the Brazilian could be sold by the Reds, but his injuries are becoming a bit of a problem. If his latest issue keeps him out for another extended period, Liverpool may well have to make a tough decision.

Alisson is under contract until 2026, with the Reds holding an option for an extra 12 months. With Mamardashvili set to arrive and clearly earmarked to become the No.1 at some stage, Liverpool will have to think carefully about whether to take up that option.
