The first of the 1872 Cup and United Rugby Championship derbies between Glasgow and Edinburgh has been called off after a number of positive Covid tests within the Warriors squad.
The match, due to be played at 7pm UK time, was called off around six hours before kick-off on Monday.
“…A number of positive Covid-19 cases within the Glasgow Warriors squad have been reported by the Scotstoun club,” read a league statement.
“The URC Medical Advisory Group has liaised with Glasgow Warriors and Public Health Scotland and deemed that the fixture cannot go ahead as scheduled.
“The United Rugby Championship will now consider available dates to reschedule the game.”
Edinburgh had already listed 17 players on Sunday who were unavailable through injury or Covid issues after naming a team which showed seven changes, while Glasgow had 11 players on the injury list prior to the unspecified number of tests.
The teams are due to meet in Edinburgh on Sunday, but it is thought extremely unlikely that the game will now be played.
