Glover Teixeira Plans to Ground and Pound Ovince Saint Preux

Glover Teixeira Takes On Misha Cirkunov at UFC Fight Night 119

A light heavyweight bout with possible title implications headlines this weekend’s UFC Fight Night 73 in Nashville with fourth-ranked Glover Teixeira taking on sixth-ranked Ovince Saint Preux.

Teixeira (22-4) is hoping to snap a two-fight losing streak and remain in contender status, but knows that Saint Preux (18-6) isn’t going to be an easy fight.

“He’s a powerful and dangerous fighter. You can’t sleep for a second with him. You have to keep moving,” said Teixeira on this week’s edition of UFC Tonight. “I have to work my way in and can’t get caught with the counter. He’s a good counterpuncher. I have to use my speed and ability to close the distance, take him down and ground and pound him.”

In order to keep moving, Teixeira has gotten himself in the best shape of his life heading into Saturday’s event at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.

“I stayed at home this time. I worked with my first boxing coach again. He’s doing a great job. I keep myself light and I’m in the best shape of my life,” he said.

While Teixeira is focused on Saint Preux, a title fight lingers in his peripheral vision.

“DC (Daniel Cormier) is a great guy and great champion. He did a great fight for the title. He deserved what he got, but I told him in Vegas: ‘Shine that belt, I’m coming for you, baby.’ Cormier, I’m fighting Saturday night, you watch the fight and let me know what you think,” said Teixeira.

Cormier puts his title on the line for the first time against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 192 on Oct. 3.
