Gold-medal bobsledder Zubkov stripped of Olympic titles

Russia's Sochi 2014 flag-bearer, Alexander Zubkov, is among a 22-strong group of banned athletes appealing against lifetime IOC sanctions.

Bobsledder Aleksandr Zubkov has been stripped of his two Olympic gold medals as part of the latest sanctions relating to Russian doping.

Zubkov was part of the successful Russian two-man and four-man bobsleigh teams at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, having previously won World Championships gold in 2011.

However, the 43-year-old, who has since retired from the sport, has been found to have committed anti-doping violations by the International Olympic Committee's disciplinary commission.

As well as being disqualified from the events in which he topped the podium, Zubkov is also prohibited from taking part in future Games in any capacity and was one of four athletes sanctioned on Friday.

Fellow bobsledder Olga Stulneva, who won a silver medal as a track athlete at the 2004 Summer Games, received the same penalty, along with speed skaters Aleksander Rumyantsev and 2014 silver medallist Olga Fatkulina.
