Former Tottenham and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has claimed West Ham can still get £100million-plus for Declan Rice next summer, even if the club are still struggling at the wrong end of the table.

The Hammers currently find themselves in the bottom three of the Premier League table after winning just one of their opening seven games under David Moyes.

Rice, however, remains the jewel in their crown although his contract situation is starting to become a concern.

The England star’s current deal runs out in the summer of 2024, although he does have the option of another year.

And speaking to Football Insider, Robinson feels Rice will still hold his value even if West Ham‘s struggles continue.

Moyes recently told the Daily Telegraph that it will take a bid of at least £150million to sell his prized midfield asset.

But when asked if the player’s value could drop as the length of his contract runs down, Robinson told FI: “I don’t think so.

“Age is on his side so I think West Ham can still get north of £100million for him. He is an established international at the age of 23.

West Ham struggles having impact on Rice

“Yes, he is not at his best right now but he is playing in a poor West Ham side. They are struggling for results and performances at the moment.

“I do not think an indifferent 12 months will effect his value. I think they will still get a top fee for him because he will be a big part of England’s World Cup squad.

“He has enough credit in the bank to hold his England place and command the same transfer fee come the end of the season.”

Rice is expected to start both of England’s games on Friday and Monday in the Nations League.

The Three Lions face Italy in Milan on Friday evening before hosting Germany three days later.

The 23-year-old will be hoping to rediscover his best form on international duty and take it back to club level.

Rice relishing Bellingham link up with England

Rice could line-up alongside major Premier League target Jude Bellingham in Gareth Southgate’s side. And he admits the Borussia Dortmund star is a scary prospect.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Rice tipped the former Birmingham man for big things.

“He’s energetic, strong, self-belief, no fear, he’s got everything,” Rice said of his international team-mate. “Nineteen, but he’s a man.

“He’s played on the big occasions already, when I’ve played with Jude I’ve loved it. He’s going to be incredible.”

Asked about partnering with Bellingham in England’s engine room, Rice added: “It takes time to settle with a partner, we’re not going to get that connection straight away but over time you do.

“Even with all the other midfielders in the squad, I hope that we can go on for the next 10 years and create a special bond in the middle of the pitch.”
