The 26-year-old slotted home six birdies on the front nine to lead fellow South African Matthew Carvell and Swedish former Ryder Cup team member Henrik Stenson after the opening 18 holes of action.
Two further birdies followed in the second half of his round to secure a bogey-free day for the early clubhouse lead.
Bremner is ranked 500th in the world and suffered a late stammer in the 2011 event, dropping from one off the halfway lead to 20th overall with 72 and 75 rounds on the weekend holes.
He will aim to avoid a similar slump this time around with the likes of last year’s Masters winner Charl Schwartzel recovering from a double-bogey on hole three to card a 68 and Martin Kaymer hoping to pick up steam after an opening day 70.
