Tullo has yet to win on the European Tour, but will begin his fourth round with a serious chance of breaking the duck after a 68 on Saturday marked his third successive card under 70 and pushed him to the front of the pack.

At 12 under par in total, he leads halfway leader Craig Lee of Scotland and American Peter Uihlein, who carded 70 and 69 respectively, with the rest of the pack some way behind the trio.

Swede Jarmo Sandelin won this very event in 1996 but he and Morten Orum Madsen of Norway are three shots behind Lee and Uihlein, with native golfer Jose-Felipe Lima and Daniel Im of the United States two further shots back.

Lima hit a six-under 66 in the day’s best effort to keep an outside chance of making it two Portuguese winners in as many years, after Ricardo Santos took home the trophy in 2012.
