Gor Mahia thumped Kakamega Homeboyz 3-0 in a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match at Moi Stadium Kisumu on Thursday to stretch their lead at the top.

The reigning champions got their goals from defender Charles Momanyi, Ghanaian striker Francis Afriyie and an own goal from Festus Okiring to earn their 21st point of the season.

With Homeboyz remaining firm for the better part of the first half, their defence was breached in the 45th minute when Momanyi rose high to head past Geofrey Oputi from a corner ball. Momanyi punished his former side to break the deadlock in a fairly packed Moi Stadium.

In the 48th minute, Kakamega Homeboyz failed to equalize when winger Moses Mudavadi was unable to maximise a precise cross into the box from captain Allan Wanga.

In the 53rd minute, Afriyie scored the second goal for K'Ogalo as he positioned himself perfectly to meet a pass from Clifton Miheso before slotting home.

Kenneth Muguna's 69th-minute strike was directed into the net by defender Okiring as the defender tried to clear his crowded area. After consultation with his assistants' centre referee Davis Omweno awarded the goal to Gor Mahia as it was scored after a rather prolonged melee in Kakamega Homeboyz's area.

Although they have played two fewer matches, the Green Army are two points clear of second-placed Ulinzi Stars. They will be away on November 24 for a match against Bandari FC at Mbaraki Stadium.

Nicholas Muyoti and his players will have to wait for communication from the KPL in order to know their next opponents because they were fixtured to play against the now relegated Sony Sugar on November 24.
