Gossip: Chelsea 'launch £30m bid' for Arsenal's Ramsey, Man United 'target' Lewandowski and Mina plus Pogba update

There are still some big deals to be done before the transfer window closes.
There are still some big deals to be done before the transfer window closes.

Anyone who remembers how boring it was when Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil still hadn’t signed new Arsenal deals in the final year of their contracts will be praying we are not inflicted to the same story about Aaron Ramsey for the next 12 months.

So it’s a relief to read in today’s Mail on Sunday that Chelsea may be about to put those long-suffering Gunners fans out of their misery early doors by signing the Welshman now.

The Blues are apparently “ready” to make a £30m offer for the 27-year-old midfielder, who has not yet agreed an extension to his Emirates contact despite it expiring next summer.

New Arsenal manager Unai Emery is keen to keep hold of the man they call Rambo and is said to be “confident” of persuading him to stay, but Chelsea have been “watching the progress of negotiations” and could make “late transfer window swoop”.

Juventus line up Paul Pogba return

Another midfielder on the move could be Paul Pogba, who the Sunday Mirror is tipping to make his now-familiar journey between Manchester and Turin.

The Frenchman has already made the trip twice, first from Man Utd to Juventus in 2012, then from Juventus to Man Utd in 2016, and now he is set to do it again by returning to the Italian champions. Very unimaginative.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s new club are reportedly planning to offload £200m worth of talent to fund a move for the World Cup-winning 25-year-old. Striker Gonzalo Higuain, midfielder Miralem Pjanic and defenders Daniele Rugani and Mattia Caldara will all be sold to make way for the Pogbatron.

United don’t really want to sell, but amid continued strain on Jose Mourinho’s relationship with the player they could be tempted by the chance of making a £100m profit on Pogba, which would just about offset the £90m loss they suffered when he joined Juve for free in the first place.

Robert Lewandowski wants £500k a week

Selling Pogba would also give United the chance to make some more overpriced signings of their own, such as the Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.

The Daily Star Sunday says the Red Devils will have to pay “Alexis-type money” to lure the Polish goal machine to Old Trafford, with the 29-year-old allegedly set to command wages of £500,000 a week. That’s in addition to the £70m transfer that Bayern are willing to accept. Quite a lot of money for a back-up to Romelu Lukaku, really.

United are also planning a £35m move for the Barcelona defender Yerry Mina, according to the Sun on Sunday. The 23-year-old Colombian has been heavily linked with Everton, but Mourinho could hijack the Toffees’ deal after being “priced out” of a move for Leicester’s Harry Maguire, who was valued at £80m at the last check.

Elsewhere, Burnley want to sign Stoke City striker Peter Crouch in a £500,000 deal (Sun on Sunday), Everton and Arsenal midfield target Steven Nzonzi is close to joining Roma from Sevilla for £29m (Calciomercato) and Watford are keen on Liverpool forward Divock Origi but they want to sign him on loan rather than meeting the Reds’ £26m asking price (Sunday Mirror). Understandable.
