Graeme Souness insists Celtic-Rangers gap not that big and delivers 'this WILL change' promise
Graeme Souness insists the gap between Celtic and Rangers isn't that big and WILL eventually be closed.
The Ibrox hero made similar claims last season despite his beloved club not managing to beat their rivals on one occasion and ending up comfortably behind them in the Premiership by the time league winners' medals were being handed out. Yesterday saw the first derby of this season and the Hoops strolled to another 3-0 victory.
Gers fans have used words such as "embarrassing" to describe their team and it was one also used by Kris Boyd as he laid into his old club post-match. But Souness doesn't actually agree and he has vowed that the Light Blues will bridge the gap on the champions.
Asked what message he would give to fans who do fear the gulf, he said: "Keep believing. It can change very quickly. I didn't see Jack Butland making save after save after save. I will keep defending this until I'm blue in the face. I didn't think we got absolutely battered yesterday. No-one is telling me Celtic stopped at 3-0 yesterday. If they could have, they would have looked to get five or six.
"Yeah, we were short yesterday. We've been short for years. But I didn't see a game yesterday that was so one-sided I was embarrassed.
"The gap is there but it is not insurmountable. It might be three players, it might be four players. If someone was to say to the manager 'there's £50million' it would change, if he got lucky and bought the right players. When both teams were doing nine-in-a-row the opposition would have thought 'this is never going to change'. This will change.
