Claims Chelsea will sack Graham Potter if results against Leeds and Borussia Dortmund don’t go his way have been clarified by a report that also revealed Todd Boehly is aware of a major mistake.

Potter’s short spell at Stamford Bridge thus far has been nothing short of disastrous. The Blues have bowed out of both domestic cups on Potter’s watch. They sit a lowly 10th in the Premier League and have a one-goal deficit to overturn in the Champions League Round of 16.

Issues in the final third have blighted Chelsea’s campaign from start to finish. Even former boss Thomas Tuchel wasn’t immune from Chelsea’s profligacy in front of goal this season.

With a measly winning percentage of just 34.6, Potter has come under tremendous pressure since the turn of the year.

The mood among the fanbase has sunk to a new low and a report from the Telegraph on Monday afternoon claimed defeats in Chelsea’s next two matches against Leeds and Dortmund could spell the end for Potter.

However, a fresh update from the Guardian has dismissed the Telegraph’s claims and echoed the previous comments of the Athletic and Ben Jacobs. Both those sources have repeatedly stressed Potter is not in any immediate danger.

The Guardian noted Chelsea ‘plan to stand by’ Potter and are ‘determined’ to give him far more than half a season at the helm.

In direct relation to the Telegraph’s claims, the Guardian add Chelsea ‘do not want to make a decision on his future based on the next two games’.

It’s acknowledged Potter is under ‘extreme pressure’ amid the ‘poisonous’ reaction among some of the club’s fanbase.

However, Todd Boehly and his Clearlake partners are seemingly determined to bite the bullet and stick with the man they hand-picked to succeed Tuchel.

As such, it’s seemingly a case of Chelsea willing to absorb short-term pain in the hope of long-term gain.

Boehly aware he’s created Chelsea problem

Despite the ongoing show of faith, the report reveals Boehly is aware he’s made Potter’s job more difficult than it otherwise could’ve been.

Chelsea spent heavily in the January window, landing eight first-team stars of which six have been integrated into Potter’s squad. The others – Malo Gusto (loaned back to Lyon) and Andrey Santos (loan back to Brazil pending) – will arrive in the summer.

Yet despite sanctioning so many arrivals, Chelsea were largely unable to shift anywhere close to the number of players they would’ve liked. Hakim Ziyech’s botched loan to PSG is a prime example.

The end result has seen Potter tasked with keeping too many stars in a bloated squad happy. Per the Daily Mail, Potter is of the belief his supersized squad is negatively impacting his training sessions.

The Guardian pick up on that line of thinking, adding Boehly and co. are ‘aware’ of the issue they’ve created through their lavish January spend.

Perhaps with that factoring into their equation, Potter is again deemed safe for now, with the club determined to give Potter at least a full pre-season to get to grips with a much-changed squad.

Potter’s calmness in dealing with what is obviously a tricky period for the club is also a tick in his column, per the report.
