Grand National: Native River won’t be running at Aintree

It’s been confirmed this afternoon that Native River won’t be running in the Aintree Bowl this year, and will miss the Aintree meeting altogether.

In a year where withdrawals have been costly for punters, the latest news is another sucker blow for bettors. The Hennessy Gold Cup winner was a 6/4 shot for the Bowl this morning, a tempting price for racing fans, of whom many believed the Colin Tizzard-trained horse would be well suited for the Merseyside track.

Unfortunately for Oddschecker users, just over 14% bets are already worthless thanks to Native River pulling out of the race. He was the third most popular ante-post bet in the race, behind Bristol De Mai and Cue Card.

Cue Card is now favourite for Thursday’s race and can be backed at 7/4 best odds, while punters’ favourite Bristol De Mai can still be backed at 6/1.
