Celebrity chef Gregg Wallace had the Loose Women panel in hysterics when he joked about the 21-year age difference between him and wife Anne-Marie.

The Masterchef star, 56, couldn’t help but poke fun at the couple’s age gap on the ITV lunchtime show on Monday when he was asked about being a parent to one-year-old son Sid.

Panelist Judi Love said: “Gregg, we know you have a lovely little baby – what is it like being a dad now?”

Wallace responded: “You haven’t met Mrs Wallace, but I was really pleased when she had a baby because it’s someone at home more her own age to talk to.”

All the panel members burst into laughter.

He went on: “I’m overjoyed, honestly. We’ve got Libby, who’s 23, who lives here, and she and her brother Tom, who’s 26, were both at the hospital when their baby brother was born – isn’t that lovely?”

Wallace, who has been married four times, has spoken regularly about the age difference between him and his wife, and how it has inspired him to be healthier.

The chef told Closer magazine earlier this year: "Having my baby boy made me want to be fit and strong. I can now go for long walks, which I wouldn't have been able to do before.

“Anne being younger than me was even more of an inspiration to be fit – you can have an old husband but she didn't have to have a fat, old husband.”

He added: "There is no way I’m going through the week without a pint of beer. But I’m careful most of the time and here I am, as fit as a butcher’s dog."

Loose Women airs on weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV.
