Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has praised his players for getting their sh*t together after the World Cup to secure only the second Treble in English football history.
The Cityzens claimed their maiden Champions League with a 1-0 win against Italian giants Inter in Istanbul on Saturday.
Rodri’s second-half strike was the difference between the sides, with the victory sealing an historic Treble for the Premier League side, whose fiercest rivals, Manchester United, did so 24 years ago.
Speaking after the game, a very happy Rodri insisted he has his eyes set on more silverware.
“Emotional,” Rodri told BT Sport. “A dream come true.
All these guys around here [points to the fans] waited I don’t know how many years. They deserve, we deserve.
“The last years we were so close. I just want to thank everyone.
“It wasn’t easy. What a team we faced, the way they defend and counter-attack.
“We gave everything. I wasn’t good in the first half, I was playing sh*t.
“Finals are like this. You can’t expect to play well as always. Emotions and nerves are there. We competed like animals.
“We want more. More ambition. It’s a dream. This moment will never happen again. We hope next year but we deserve to celebrate.
“All of these players who made the club big, [lists players like Sergio Aguero and David Silva] this one is for them.”
Guardiola admitted his side were not at their best against Inter but believes the victory “was written in the stars”.
He told BT Sport: “Tired. Calm. Satisfied. It’s so f**king difficult to win it.
“They are really good. Be patient, I said at half-time. You have to be lucky. Ederson or they miss it, they could draw. This competition is (the flip of) a coin.
“It was written in the stars. It belongs to us.
“We weren’t at our best level. After the World Cup the team made a step forward and we were there. It wasn’t our best performance.
“I don’t have any energy to think about next season, it’s impossible. We need a break, it’s too long.
“Our players have international games now. UEFA and FIFA, think about it. The Premier League finished two or three weeks ago, now people have to come back. It’s too much. We will start from zero next season.
“We’re going to celebrate in the hotel with family and friends. Monday the parade is in Manchester. With this competition, the treble is so difficult.”
