Gustavo Puerta Rangers transfer link addressed with NO contact made for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder

Rangers have NOT made any contact with Bayer Leverkusen over Gustavo Puerta in this transfer window.

The 21-year-old midfielder was previously on the Ibrox club's radar with Philippe Clement keen to bolster his engine room options in January, but he ended up signing Mohamed Diomande. Puerta played 10 times last term for Xabi Alonso's Invincibles last season and is considered a prospect moving forward but Football Scotland understands Gers have not been back in touch since their initial interest.

Clement has instructed his chief of recruitment, Nils Koppen, to scour the globe for new signings and the Colombian playmaker was another option on their shortlist but the interest seems to have faded. Reports in Denmark claim there are other clubs hoping to land the player.

Puerta is represented by the same agency as winger Oscar Cortes who is already in Glasgow. It comes as Todd Cantwell is looking for a way out of the club which would free up wages should it be a deal the club decided to go back in and try and get done before the end of August.
