Gwyneth Paltrow’s new series The Goop Lab has been savaged by reviewers who have branded it boring and self-indulgent.
The Netflix show - named for Paltrow’s lifestyle brand Goop - sees the actress delving into wellness trends such as energy healing and cold therapy.
But so far Paltrow hasn’t impressed viewers.
A reviewer in The Guardian noted that in a piece about the female anatomy, the star seemed “alarmingly ignorant”.
Despite her vagina-scented candles and call for women to get their private parts steamed, the actress was apparently blindsided by some of the details in an episode focusing on female sexual pleasure.
Giving it just one out of five stars, the reviewer wrote: “She suggests you steam it, put jade eggs up it and recently launched a candle that smells like it, but Gwyneth Paltrow seems not to know what a vagina is.”
She also said the whole show was “a demented paean to self-indulgence”.
A review in The Wall Street Journal said the same episode was “a crashing bore”, adding: “And with its stylish but unreadable fonts and the show’s next-level self-absorption, ultimately unwatchable.”
The Goop Lab also came under fire from The Hollywood Reporter, which declared it “as silly and grating as expected”, adding: “Paltrow doubles down on the polarising persona she's cultivated for the last decade and a half as Hollywood's most famous woo-woo peddler.”
The publication suggested the real mystery was “why Netflix would provide a global platform for Paltrow's anti-scientific claptrap”.
The Daily Beast called the show “predictable and dull” in a cutting piece with the headline: “Gwyneth Paltrow’s Netflix Series Is a Nightmare - and a Terrible Bore.”
However, Paltrow’s latest enterprise did fare a little better with fans online, with some posting encouraging messages on Twitter.

“I know doctors are sceptical of Goop… but I’ve tried a couple of therapies endorsed by Gwyneth Paltrow and they’ve really helped my healing journey. Vaginal steaming made me feel so cleansed,” said one person.
“This first episode of #thegooplab is great!” said another.
“Taking care of your mental health is so important & I truly believe psychedelics & mdma are the future.”
