Faulkner made history at London 2012 last summer, forming part of the first ever British rhythmic gymnastics group to compete at an Olympic Games.
With the Games long since passed, the 19-year-old performed in her first individual competition for three years at the Attila Cup in Utrecht at the weekend.
Faulkner won the senior individual competition in the Netherlands but knows the road to reaching next year's Commonwealth Games won't be plain sailing.
"I started training with the group in 2011, so this was my first individual competition since 2010. I wasn't really sure how I'd do having been out of individuals for so long," said Faulkner.
"I'm hoping to get to the Commonwealths, but it's not going to be easy. I've still got some catching up to do, I've got another year of training and hopefully that will get me through."
