Hampshire made a solid start to the day against LV= County Championship Division Two rivals Yorkshire and lead by 101 runs after adding 52 in the 15 overs possible to reach 73 for one.

Jimmy Adams was 39 not out, with Michael Carberry on 21.

The other two games in the second tier were similarly poised after declarations this morning.

Some spectacular declaration bowling allowed Leicestershire to call time on their innings at 306 for five and set Essex 270 to win.

Ned Eckersley hit 70no from 19 balls and Wayne White 50no from 12 as Mark Pettini took one for 72 in 3.1 overs and Adam Wheater one for 86 in four.

Northamptonshire openers Stephen Peters (54no) and the promoted James Middlebrook (64no) put on 123 in less artificial fashion before Andrew Hall's declaration left Kent to chase 261.
