‘It will happen’ – Klopp drops huge Liverpool transfer hint with £190m double deal tip of the iceberg
Jurgen Klopp spoke openly about what is shaping up to be an enormous summer transfer window at Anfield, while two deals totalling £190m have both been talked up.
The common consensus regarding Liverpool this season is the lack of midfield investment has cost them dear. Liverpool did push to sign Aurelien Tchouamani in the summer, though the ex-Monaco destroyer only had eyes for Real Madrid.
Rather than sign a plan B, Jurgen Klopp and his recruitment team elected to keep their powder dry.
Jude Bellingham was already on the club’s radar, but the Tchouameni miss has heightened the need for an arrival of his calibre.
In an exclusive interview with TEAMtalk, reporter Ben Jacobs recently provided a comprehensive update on Liverpool’s pursuit of the Dortmund ace.
Among the topics discussed were who leads the race, what Liverpool’s pitch revolves around and whether missing out on Champions League qualification will have an effect.
In any case, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano recently suggested Liverpool could make it a midfield double come the summer. With James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita all off contract, multiple additions may be required.
Romano also stressed Liverpool fans should keep an eye out for an arrival at centre-half. Speculation is swirling Joel Matip will be axed at season’s end and talk of a £80m move for RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol has ramped up.
Gvardiol (£80m) and Bellingham (approximately £110m, per various reports), would set Liverpool back a colossal £190m. However, if the comments of Klopp are anything to go by, that’s what’s required and also what will be delivered.
Klopp hints at big Liverpool summer
Via Football Daily, the German was asked about Liverpool’s summer plans and specifically Jude Bellingham.
Klopp has generally always urged caution ahead of Liverpool windows and has often insisted his team don’t need as many new faces as their fans would like.
However, the Reds boss changed his tune in the interview, stating Liverpool will do big business “100 percent”, adding “it will happen”.
“We keep talking about Jude Bellingham,” said the interviewer. “If you don’t get Champions League football does it make signings like that impossible?
“You’re talking about Jude who is a different subject,” replied Klopp. “But in general it makes things always more difficult.
“We are still Liverpool. We’re a big club and it’s not that we can do nothing [in the market].
“We’ll have transfer business, obviously. We have to, 100 percent clear in the summer. We have to make changes and that’s all clear, everyone knows that and it will happen.
“But in the end, how much is not in my hands. We are obviously in constant talks and everyone knows exactly what we need.”
