Harry Kane has announced that he will be staying at Tottenham this summer, bringing to an end a transfer saga which has rumbled on since May.

Kane confirmed on social media that he will be "100% focussed on helping the team achieve success" and thanked fans for their support, including his warm reception at Wolves on Sunday.

Kane was desperate to force his way out of his boyhood to join Manchester City but Daniel Levy, the Spurs chairman, was determined not to sell the 28-year-old, who has three years remaining on the six-year deal he signed in 2018.

Spurs rejected at least one bid for Kane from City, worth around £100million, and are thought to have made it clear to the Abu Dhabi-backed club that their talisman was not for sale.

Kane was frustrated at Levy's stance, believing he had a gentleman's agreement with the chairman to allow him to leave this summer, but has now accepted remaining in north London for at least another year.

The England captain wrote on Twitter: "It was incredible to see the reception from the Spurs fans on Sunday and to read some of the messages of support I've had in the last few weeks. I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100% focused on helping the team achieve success."

Kane sat out Spurs' opening-day win over City and their Europa Conference League match against Pacos de Ferreira after belatedly reporting back to the club following a post-European Championship holiday.

Spurs considered fining him after he eventually returned from a break in the Bahamas and Florida five days later than anticipated, although Kane later claimed he had reported back to Hotspur Way "as planned".

He spent five days in isolation before returning to training with the first-team squad last week and made a 20-minute cameo in the 1-0 win at Molineux on Sunday.

Having been jeered by Spurs fans in the win over City, when supporters sang "Are you watching Harry Kane?" as Spurs saw out an impressive win, he was cheered by the travelling fans on Sunday, who chanted his name.
