Fabrizio Romano has spoken about the extent of talks between Tottenham and Chelsea for Harry Kane, with Blues owner Todd Boehly hunting for a new striker.
Romelu Lukaku is no longer in Thomas Tuchel’s squad after going back to Inter Milan on a season-long loan. And reports claim it could become a two-year deal if next season goes well for the player.
Tuchel can still play Kai Havertz and Timo Werner up front. But Havertz is known as more of a central attacking midfielder, who operates just behind a striker, while Werner could leave in a summer move.
England skipper Kane is reportedly on Chelsea’s radar as a possible replacement for Lukaku. According to Bild journalist Christian Falk, he is ‘very interesting for Chelsea’.
Those at Stamford Bridge know Tottenham are desperate to keep their talisman. And if he were to leave, then Spurs chairman Daniel Levy would rather sell to a foreign team than a Premier League rival.
But Falk suggests Chelsea officials think there is a possibility they can raid Spurs for the 29-year-old goalscorer.
During an interview with CaughtOffside, Romano was asked about the Kane to Chelsea rumours.
The transfer expert claims discussions between the two clubs are yet to start. And even if they did, Chelsea would have a mountain to climb to finalise a deal.
Romano updates fans on Harry Kane to Chelsea
“I’m not aware of any contact between Chelsea and Harry Kane,” Romano said. “Chelsea understand that Kane is untouchable, and Daniel Levy wouldn’t sell to a Premier League rival.”
The journalist then spoke about Chelsea’s pursuit for a new hitman, with one name cropping up as the ‘ideal solution’.
“In my opinion, Chelsea should have already taken action on a new striker as it’s becoming difficult to find a top-level player in this position,” he added.
“Erling Haaland would have been the ideal solution, but it was impossible to work on that deal due to the sanctions imposed on Roman Abramovich at the time.”
The sanctions on Chelsea meant they couldn’t begin proceedings to capture Haaland. Instead, they will come up against him next season following his transfer to Manchester City.
The Norwegian striker has already got up and running in pre-season, scoring the winner in a friendly against Bayern Munich.
As long as Haaland can stay fit, then he should register at least 20 goals in all competitions next season. This will leave Chelsea fans wondering what might have been.
Meanwhile, a journalist has told Spurs how long they’ve got to land Nicolo Zaniolo before Roma start contract negotiations.
