A pundit has reacted to rumours of a potential Bayern Munich transfer for Harry Kane, saying the England captain will be ‘flattered’ by them.

According to German source Kicker, Kane is one of the strikers under consideration at Bayern. They might need to bring in a new goalscorer this summer if talisman Robert Lewandowski leaves for Barcelona.

This is not the first time Kane has been tipped for a move abroad. Amid the Manchester City saga last summer, Paris Saint-Germain was named as a potential destination for the Tottenham ace.

But PSG never began transfer talks and City couldn’t agree a deal with Spurs, forcing Kane to remain in north London.

After a slow start, Kane went on to have a fantastic campaign in 2021-22. He found the net 27 times in 50 matches, as well as registering 10 assists.

Kane and Spurs will compete in the Champions League next term after edging out Arsenal for fourth spot. This is a major boost for Spurs and their hopes of retaining Kane, as well as head coach Antonio Conte.

But once again Kane is being linked with a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Noel Whelan thinks the 28-year-old will be ‘flattered’ by rumours of him replacing Lewandowski at the Allianz Arena. However, the pundit thinks Kane will remain in England if he ever has to leave Spurs.

Harry Kane backed to reject Bayern advances

“Will he leave Tottenham for Bayern Munich? I don’t think so,” Whelan told Football Insider.

“I just don’t think it’s as an exciting proposition as moving to Man City was, put it that way.

“I’m sure he’d like to stay in the Premier League if he is to move at all – and move to a club capable of winning the league and Champions League.

“He’ll be flattered by the interest from Bayern – but I just can’t see him jumping out of his seat to go.”

Whelan is right. Kane is settled in his native England and is unlikely to uproot his family by going to Germany.

Plus, the striker has one eye on Alan Shearer’s Premier League goalscoring record. He won’t be able to match this if he spends a few seasons in the Bundesliga.

Kane’s Spurs contract runs until June 2024, which means the club has a good amount of time to organise an extension.

They might need to offer him a handsome pay rise to reward his great efforts on the pitch and keep potential suitors such as Bayern at bay.

Meanwhile, a report has revealed how Barcelona man Memphis Depay feels about joining Spurs.
