Harry Kane is running out of time to prove his fitness for Sunday’s Carabao Cup Final.

Kane missed training again on Friday because of his ankle injury and Tottenham interim manager Ryan Mason says Spurs are “not sure yet” if the forward will be available to face Manchester City at Wembley.

Kane limped off after scoring twice during last Friday night’s 2-2 draw with Everton and was not in the squad for Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Southampton.

Mason says Tottenham are “taking it hour by hour” but he has conceded “the days are obviously running out”.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s Final at Wembley, where Spurs will be looking to end their 13-year trophy drought, Mason said: “We’re not sure yet, he didn’t train with the team today but we’ll have more of an idea tomorrow to see if we can get him back on the pitch.

“We’re not really sure. It’s a case of taking it hour by hour, the days are obviously running out, it’s a case of seeing how he feels in the next four hours, the next six hours and then go from there. Everyone isn’t sure.

“I don’t know if Harry’s going to be available for training tomorrow, let alone the game on Sunday. But, if he is, it’s a quick turnaround, a week without training is not a problem for someone in Harry’s condition. I think we’re going to assess it late tonight or early tomorrow and see if we can get him on the pitch.”

He added: “Harry’s the player, Harry’s the man with that feeling. He knows his body better than me, he knows his body better than anyone else in the world. At the moment he’s not on the football pitch.

“He’s the best number nine in the world in my eyes so if Harry’s fit and he feels like he is fit then of course he’ll play. But at this moment we don’t know if he will be fit. We’ll be a lot clearer in the morning, we’ll be a lot clearer tomorrow. But I can’t answer the question in terms of will he play or will he not.”

Mason says Kane will not risk his fitness if he is not ready, with the Euros coming up for England this summer.

Mason said: “Harry is a top professional. We’re taking it hour by hour, seeing how he feels. What we are not going to do and what Harry is not going to do is put his body on the line if he does not think it is suitable.

“We are never going to put Harry in that position, absolutely not. We will see how he is tomorrow and we can make a decision from there.

“It is combined effort. How does the player feel, what do the medics say.”
