Harry Kane says ‘winning is everything’ to Jose Mourinho as he outlined his ‘good relationship’ with his latest Tottenham boss.
Kane was an instrumental part of Mauricio Pochettino’s five-year tenure at Tottenham before the Argentine’s sacking last year, and some pundits have speculated whether Spurs’ star striker is happy working under Mourinho.
Paul Merson was on the receiving end of a stat-laden backlash from Mourinho last month after claiming the Portuguese would struggle get the best out of Kane, but the Spurs striker insists that he’s enjoying working with the three-time Premier League winner.
Kane admits that Mourinho’s style does differ to Pochettino’s, but insists that he has built-up a good relationship with his new boss, who he regards as ‘one of the best managers in the world’.
"They're definitely two different styles of manager, but it's been great," Kane told BT Sport.
"Obviously we've had a long period where I was out injured doing rehab, having to watch the team from the sidelines and we've had a long time to get to know each other with Covid-19.
"We've built up a good relationship and we talk very often.
"He wants to win, he's here to win. Obviously there are no trophies to play for this season but next season that's his aim. Everything is about winning and he's made that clear."
Some Spurs fans have been left disgruntled by some of the performances since Mourinho took over from Pochettino at the end of November, with the side currently occupying eighth place in the table.
Tottenham can move up to sixth – into the Europa League places – should they win at Newcastle tonight, providing Burnley do them a favour in their match against Wolves at Turf Moor.
But Kane insists that while some of their performances this season may not have been pleasing on the eye, the end result in what’s most important.
"There have been times where we haven't played well but we've won the game and at the end of the day three points is the most important thing.
"I think he's looking forward, going into next season, having a bit more time to work with the boys in pre-season and getting to know them more. He's great to work under and it's another opportunity for me to learn off one of the best managers in the world, so I'm taking it all in and learning as fast as I can."
