Antonio Conte will likely be delighted after Tottenham successfully warned a major European club off the hunt for talisman Harry Kane.

The striker managed 27 goals and 10 assists in all competitions last season after a slow start. He began the campaign in the shadow of a failed summer transfer to Manchester City.

Kane went on to have a hugely successful season and is now reaping the rewards of playing under Conte.

Tottenham beat Arsenal to fourth spot last term, meaning they will feature in the Champions League this time around.

And with Conte at the helm for a full campaign, Spurs have a good chance of ending their trophy drought.

During City’s pursuit of Kane, the England captain was unwilling to sign a new contract with his current club. This is because he wanted to leave to win major trophies at the Etihad.

But Kane has been impressed by Conte’s ambition, as well as Spurs’ good dealings in the transfer market. Stars such as Richarlison, Ivan Perisic and Yves Bissouma have arrived in north London.

As such, Kane has completed a contract turnaround and is now willing to extend his Spurs deal.

Contract stance warns suitors off Harry Kane

Bayern Munich have been hoping to snare Kane away from Spurs this summer. They need a new goalscorer – alongside Sadio Mane – to replace Roberto Lewandowski up front.

Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn says signing Kane is ‘a dream of the future’. While first-team coach Julian Nagelsmann thinks he is a ‘brilliant player’.

Despite Bayern’s interest in Kane, they will not be making a bid for him or any other striker during the current transfer window.

In an interview with German newspaper Bild (via 90Min), Kahn said: “We are not going to sign a new striker. There’s no discussion, no way.

“We still have options in the current team – [Joshua] Zirkzee, [Eric-Maxim] Choupo-Moting then the young Mathys Tel.”

This is great news for Spurs. It means they can tie Kane down to a new, long-term contract without having Bayern looming in the background for his signature.

Kahn and Nagelsmann’s comments suggest the Bavarians could come in for him at a later date. But by this point, he will likely be under fresh terms in north London.

While Conte has been influential in getting Kane to change his mind, handing the 29-year-old a new deal could also get the manager to stay.

Reports have claimed Conte will leave Spurs if they fail to match his demands in terms of transfers or keep the best players at the club.

The Premier League side have spent over £90m this summer, so they have certainly adhered to Conte’s wish in terms of incomings.

And getting Kane to stay, potentially for the rest of his career, will convince Conte that Spurs can continue to challenge over the next few years.

Meanwhile, Japhet Tanganga’s move to AC Milan is under threat, as a former Spurs boss is hoping to torpedo the loan deal.
