Harry Kane has claimed the Tottenham fans create an even better atmosphere at Wembley than they do at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham return to the national stadium tomorrow/on Thursday to face Gent, aiming to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg and advance to the last 16 of the Europa League. Tottenham have sold all tickets and a crowd close to the 90,000 capacity is expected.

It is highly likely that Spurs will play all home games at Wembley next season, as work continues on their £750million stadium project, with the 61,000-seat ground due to open for the 2018-19 season.

Spurs lost to Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen at Wembley this season, hastening their elimination from the Champions League. But Kane insisted: “White Hart Lane has a smaller crowd, they are right on top of you and it is a great atmosphere – but Wembley is probably even better.

“The fans are not as close to the pitch but it is incredible. There will be a full house again for Gent and we hope we can use it to our advantage. We didn’t find it difficult there. We just had two bad games, which we’ve had in different stadiums against different teams.

“People will use it as an excuse but we’re definitely not looking at it like that. We played well last time there to beat CSKA Moscow and we have to do that against Gent. It feels more like home – and we hope we will be there more times this season, in the Europa League and FA Cup.

“Every time we play there we get a bit more comfortable and used to the surroundings. We have done as much as we can for that. There are things on the dressing room walls, Tottenham phrases or pictures from history.

“We are trying to make it feel like home as much as possible and there are no excuses from that department.”
