Harry Maguire was today backed by his family and friends after telling how he “feared for his life” during his arrest in Mykonos.

The Manchester United captain spoke out last night on BBC News, the first time since being given a 21-month suspended jail term after a brawl on the Greek island last week.

He said he thought he was being kidnapped and alleged police hit him on the legs and told him his career was over during the arrest.

He added “I’m really confident the truth will be told” as he confirmed he was appealing against the court decision. His younger sister, Daisy, who was with him when he was arrested, tweeted: “Family is everything.”

Brother Joe re-tweeted a BBC article posted by Love Island star Chis Hughes with the comment: “The Truth.”

Cricketer Michael Vaughan wrote: “Harry Maguire needs looking after... one of the good guys... anyone who has just watched his interview you can clearly see someone who has been set up in Greece!!”

Greek police dispute this version of events and in court the prosecution said Maguire, his brother and friend then physically and verbally attacked police officers.
