Harry Maguire red card: Manchester United captain sent off during England vs Denmark as torrid spell continues

Harry Maguire received a red card for two poor challenges in England's key Nations League fixture against Denmark to continue a torrid personal run for the Manchester United captain.

After being withdrawn from England's Nations League qualifiers against Iceland and Denmark last month due to his subsequently quashed conviction in Greece, Maguire was reinstated to Gareth Southgate's squad this month.

The centre-back played the full 90 minutes as England beat Belgium 2-1 to move into pole position to advance from the group on Sunday.

However, Maguire lasted just 31 minutes against Denmark on Wednesday, seeing red following two clumsy challenges after losing possession, with Christian Eriksen converting from the spot just four minutes later to put England in deep trouble.

International football aside, Maguire has also endured a difficult spell with United in what has been a worrying start to the 2020/21 campaign.

After losing their opening league game 3-1 at home to Crystal Palace, United were handed a humbling by Tottenham, who ran out 6-1 winners at Old Trafford.

Despite having played one less game than the majority of the Premier League, United have the joint-worst defensive record in the Premier League this season with 11 goals conceded in three games.

And while former Red Devil Patrice Evra insisted Maguire should now be dropped from the United side, the former Leicester man's struggles have also continued on an international basis.
