Tottenham central midfielder Harry Winks has been told he has no future at the club and is free to find a new team this summer, as per a report.

Winks made 30 appearances during the recently concluded season, as well as in 2020-21. But that doesn’t tell the full story as he has become less and less important in the first team.

The Englishman didn’t complete a full 90 minutes in the Premier League during the last three months of the campaign.

He is struggling to get into Antonio Conte’s starting lineup due to the form of Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The Italian coach can rely on Oliver Skipp too, although he is currently recovering from injury.

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham came to the decision of letting Winks go on Friday.

And Spurs have now told Winks about this, as per Football Insider. As such, they have given the 26-year-old plenty of time to find a new club before the next season begins.

Winks is seen as being ‘surplus to requirements’ to Conte, although Football Insider claim they still want £20million for him.

This clashes with a recent update from the Daily Mail, which said Spurs would hold out for £25m.

Harry Winks wanted by Newcastle, Saints

Two Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on the situation and could soon begin negotiations with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

They are Newcastle and Southampton. Both teams believe Winks would improve their respective midfields, despite his lack of game time in recent months.

It would be a clever addition for either side as Winks has both international experience with England and knowledge of what it’s like to play in European competition.

However, Newcastle and the Saints are unlikely to want to pay £20m, let alone £25m. Therefore, some negotiation needs to be done before Winks can officially leave Spurs.

Winks’ contract with the north London outfit runs until 2024, which means he cannot wait it out and leave on a free transfer.

The Spurs academy graduate must push for an immediate exit so he can get back to his best.

Newcastle represent the more attractive option thanks to their financial power and ambitions of getting into the top six.

Southampton, in contrast, lost their last four Premier League matches on the bounce and finished in 15th place.

Of course, Winks would probably take either option just so he can get some time on the pitch. But if offers come in from both clubs, then he will surely have to pick Newcastle.

Meanwhile, Spurs have reportedly completed a U-turn on the future of Spanish winger Bryan Gil.
