Jasprit Bumrah opens up on his duel in the Lord’s Test with England legend James Anderson. The Indian speedster says that some of the things said by Anderson fired him and the team up, which spurred them on to win the game with a marvellous comeback on Day 5.

In the last overs of Day 3, Jasprit Bumrah hurled down a barrage of short balls towards Anderson in a single over – which lasted for 10 balls courtesy of 4 no balls. After Anderson was dismissed and stumps were called, the England seamer unpleased on facing a series of short-balls went to have a word with Bumrah and then with Indian captain Virat Kohli as well.

“As soon as the game got over and the day got over, some of the words were exchanged and we were really not happy. The exchanges were not pleasant. When I heard what was said, I really got riled up.

“Because if something comes up…I’ll give it 10 times up. So, everybody was really charged up,” Jasprit Bumrah told Dinesh Karthik in an interview for Sky Sports.

On Day 4, Anderson had a couple of verbal exchanges with Kohli as well when the Indian skipper was batting. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami led India’s comeback on Day 5 first with the bat and then ran through the England batting line-up to help India take a series lead.

Anderson would then go on to say that he felt Jasprit Bumrah “wasn’t trying to get me out” and was even bowling more quicker to him than he had done all day.

“I got caught off guard a little bit because all the batters coming in were saying how slow the pitch was. Banged in short; it was really slow. When I came out to bat, Joe said Bumrah was not bowling as quick as he normally does.

“And then, the first ball was 90 miles an hour and on the money, wasn’t it? And it felt like, I haven’t felt like this ever in my career. I felt he wasn’t trying to get me out,” Anderson said on the Tailenders podcast.

There has been a debate around it as well about whether the umpires should have stopped Bumrah from bowling bouncers due to the number 11 Anderson’s lack of batting skills as he could have got hurt.
