Hector Bellerin is yet to decide on his future despite claims that he wants to leave Arsenal, TEAMtalk understands.

The 27-year-old has made well over 200 appearances for Arsenal, having made his first-team debut back in September 2013. However, following a string of injuries with the Gunners, he found himself playing an increasingly depleted role. Having peaked rather early in his career, Bellerin’s role with the north London side stagnated as he struggled to replicate his early career form in recent seasons.

As such, it was no surprise when the right-back departed Emirates Stadium last summer, joining Real Betis on a season’s loan. And the move has paid dividends, with Bellerin enjoying a new lease of life under the charge of Manuel Pellegrini.

Indeed, Bellerin has made a total of 31 appearances this season, tasting glory in the final of the Copa del Rey recently.

However, his future remains very much up in the air with that arrangement due to expire in a matter of weeks. To that end, details have surfaced that Bellerin would like to make his loan move to Betis permanent.

With just a year left of his contract at Arsenal, reports claim Bellerin is ready to make a permanent £8.4m move to the LaLiga side.

However, our sources have informed us that is not yet the case. Furthermore, the right-back will not make a final decision on his future until he returns to Arsenal at the end of the season.

Hector Bellerin may still have a future at Arsenal

And we understand Bellerin could well still have a role to play under Mikel Arteta next season. With summer signing Takehiro Tomiyasu struggling for fitness himself, the future remains uncertain for deputy right-back Cedric Soares.

And that may yet open the door for the four-times capped Spain full-back to ressurrect his career with Arsenal.

Furthermore, Arteta has suggested himself that he planning for having Bellerin back in his squad next season.

“Any player with a contractual obligation with us, both ways, is our player and is considered our player,” Arteta said. “Every plan considers that possibility (that Bellerin could stay) exists and how they can fit into our team.”

However, as things stand, Bellerin is yet to decide either way what his future holds.

The Gunners are right to delay making any such call on his future at this stage.

The move back to his homeland has clearly done Bellerin the world of good. And if he can recapture his early-career form, the player may well still have a future at Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners will need a stronger squad next season in light of the return of European football to the club.

Arteta’s side are currently fourth and on course for a place in the Champions League. Qualification would bring an end to a run of six seasons away from the competition for the Gunners.

Meanwhile, the Gunners are closing on the sale of Lucas Torreira with a £12.5m deal nearing completion.
