A MAN was jailed for six years following ‘a gravely serious incident’ in which shots were fired on the streets of Bradford in broad daylight.

Thomas Edmonds was a passenger in a Vauxhall Corsa when a firearm was discharged from the vehicle forcing members of the public to ‘duck and dive’ to get out of the way.

Edmonds, 26, was the third man to be jailed after the confrontation between rival groups late on the afternoon of September 21, 2021.

He pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

A TEENAGER who attacked a man with a machete during a dispute over a drug deal was locked up for more than three years.

Abdullah Swaid, who was 18 at the time, got into a dispute with a customer he was dealing class A drugs to.

Bradford Crown Court heard that his victim questioned both the quantity and quality of the drugs he was handed, leading to Swaid pulling a machete out of his car, and launching an attack.

The man suffered two injuries to his left arm, one described to the court as a “significant wound”.

An Eat Out To Help Out fraudster was jailed for two and a half years for attempting to fleece the taxpayer out of £434,000 by submitting fictitious and fraudulent claims during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Mohammed Ikram was locked up at Bradford Crown Court in the first conviction of Covid scheme fraud by Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs.

Ikram, 36, pleaded guilty to 20 offences of cheating the Public Revenue by submitting false online Eat Out To Help Out claims between August 8, 2020, and September 6, 2020.

The court heard that during a four-week period he put forward 19 fraudulent claims totalling just over £443,000 relating to eight different food outlets, most entirely fictitious.

A MEAN woman burglar who stepped over an unconscious stroke victim to steal her purse containing £500 in cash and a photograph of her late father was jailed for 18 months.

Kirsty Owen targeted her vulnerable victim at a retirement complex near her home in Bakes Street, Great Horton, Bradford, by trying to sell her a candle four days before Christmas.

Owen, 37, who has 19 convictions on her record, including stealing from her grandmother, was in the grip of a crack cocaine addiction that meant ‘her basic levels of common decency went out of the window,’ her barrister said.

A TRANSGENDER woman is serving her sentence in a male prison after receiving a 12-year extended jail sentence for wounding with intent, robbery, false imprisonment and fraud. 

A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Justice disclosed that Zara Jade, who was locked up at Bradford Crown Court was not sent to a women’s prison.

The spokeswoman could not reveal which jail the defendant was serving the sentence in but told the Telegraph & Argus it was ‘a male prison'.

The court heard that Jade, 54, attacked her victim at her flat in Halifax in August last year after she had been out drinking.

Prosecutor Lydia Pearce said she demanded cash and stabbed the woman in the arm and abdomen. She took some money and demanded the PIN for the victim’s bank card.

She then used tights to tie her ankles, knees, chest and arms to the chair. She tilted it back and turned off the power supply before using the bank card to withdraw £300.

A MAN aged 40 was jailed for nine years for child sex offences.

Andrew Hickey pleaded guilty to assault by penetration and sexual assault.

Hickey lived at a flat in Shipley but was remanded in HMP Leeds until the hearing at Bradford Crown Court.

Deputy Circuit Judge Timothy Clayson told him: “What you did was very serious indeed.”

He will serve two-thirds of the nine-year prison sentence behind bars and the rest on licence.

The judge made a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for an indefinite period and Hickey will have to sign on the sex offender register without limit of time.

A CHILD SEX offender was jailed for four-and-a-half years after he was caught by a paedophile hunter group for the second time.

In 2017, Scott Jones was given a three-year community order and told to undertake a sex offender programme after he admitted online sex chats with two decoy girls aged 14 and 11.

At the same hearing at Leeds Crown Court, Jones was made the subject of a five-year sexual harm prevention order and a requirement to register as a sex offender with the police for the same period of time.

Bradford Crown Court heard that within 24 hours of the protective orders expiring, Jones was again involved in sexualised online chat with another ‘13-year-old decoy.’

TWO men have each been jailed for two and a half years for sexually abusing two vulnerable teenage girls who had gone missing from a Bradford children’s home.

The underage victims were assaulted at a house in Bradford, after meeting Stanislav Himal by chance in the street late at night and giving him directions.

He took them to the address where they thought they would receive money and cigarettes for helping him, prosecutor Abigail Langford told Bradford Crown Court today.

Himal, 35, and co-accused Jozef Fedor, 56, then sexually molested the girls who were so frightened that they fled the house without their shoes and jackets.

The men denied abusing the girls but were convicted by a jury of sexual assault.

A MAN stamped on his partner's head so hard her "eyes nearly came out her head, like a golf ball” and then chased her outside with a knife in his boxers.

John Wilkinson pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm without intent and possessing a bladed article in a public place on Wednesday.

He was sentenced to 30 months in prison at Bradford Crown Court on Thursday for the first offence, with 12 months for the second charge, to run concurrently.

Wilkinson repeatedly punched his partner in the face, making her bleed from the nose and mouth, in their bedroom and also stamped on her head seven times, leading to her to bleed from her ears, in a prolonged attack, the court heard.
