Tottenham star Heung-min Son says he still considers Jose Mourinho to be “one of the best managers in the world” and says it is “so sad” he left the club without winning aa trophy.

Mourinho was sacked last month, less than a week before the Carabao Cup final, which Spurs lost to Manchester City with interim boss Ryan Mason in charge.

It was the first time the Portuguese had left a club without winning a major trophy since he left União de Leiria after only six months to take the helm at Porto way back in January 2002.

“It’s always sad if someone loses their job,” Son told TV3. “I don’t want to talk too much because I’ve been working with him for 17 or 18 months.

“It’s been up and down, we’ve been good and sometimes we’ve been not so good.

“It was just for me, for my memory, he’s still one of the best managers in the world so it’s just so sad that he didn’t have the success.

“It was really sad because he’s the guy who wins everything, it’s the only team he didn’t have success [with]. So, I feel really sorry about this.”
