Highlands Park part ways with Gordon Igesund

The four-time PSL title winning coach has been shown the door by the Lions of the North following their latest defeat to Bidvest Wits

Relegation-threatened Highlands Park have confirmed that they have parted ways with coach Gordon Igesund due to the club's poor form.

“Look, from the team’s point of view, I am confirming that  we have parted ways with Gordon,” club director Sinky Mnisi confirmed to TMG Sport.

The Lions of the North lost 2-0 to Wits at home following two first half goals from Granwald Scott and Vincent Pule on Friday.

“The board of directors took a decision yesterday after realising that desired results are not coming. It seems that players are not responding to his methods - hence we are not getting positive results,” he said.

“Gordon has done a lot for us and we will always have a soft spot for him. There are players he brought to the club and surely we would not have gotten them if it was not for him.

“It was just unfortunate that players either did not understand his methods which would have made us get desired results,” Mnisi said.

Highlands, who are placed 16th on the league table, have appointed Les Grobler as their caretaker coach.

The Lions of the North will take on Platinum Stars in their next league match in Rustenburg on Sunday, 07 May 2017.
