Alexis Mac Allister has issued an emotional message after starring in Liverpool's win over Real Madrid in the Champions League. The Reds claimed a 2-0 victory over the Spanish giants at Anfield on Wednesday night to maintain their 100 percent start in the competition.

Mac Allister opened the scoring for Liverpool in the second half before a Cody Gakpo header secured the points in the final minutes. The victory means that the Reds are still the only club in the Champions League this season to win all of their first five league phase fixtures.

Before beating Madrid, Liverpool had not won any of their previous nine meetings against the La Liga outfit, with seven losses in that run. Now, Mac Allister has acknowledged the importance of the victory with a message on social media.

"A special goal, a historic rival, and a team that never stops dreaming," wrote Mac Allister on Instagram.

"This is the Liverpool we build together. Always pushing for more!"

Mac Allister was not alone in sending a message after Liverpool's win over Madrid. Conor Bradley put in an impressive performance at Anfield, with his tackle on Kylian Mbappe in the first half one moment that earned the Northern Ireland international a round of applause from the home crowd.

"Enjoyed that one! Big performance from the team," wrote Bradley on Instagram. "First start and assist in the UCL."

Virgil van Dijk captained Liverpool to the famous win over Madrid and also sent a message on Instagram. "Big European nights at Anfield," wrote the defender.

Liverpool still have three league phase fixtures to play in the Champions League this season against Girona, Lille and PSV Eindhoven. The Reds will return to Premier League action this weekend when they face Manchester City at Anfield in a top-of-the-table clash.
