The 2010 champion has suffered chronic back problems, causing her to miss all of last season after ending her 2011 campaign early due to injury.

“I’ve been back in treatment for about six weeks now,” the 28-year-old German admitted.

“I had a short spell back skiing but I still have these back problems. The pain never went away.”

Hoelzl had been expected to at least come close to defending her 2010 title but she aborted her 2011 campaign in February, finishing seventh in the end.

She briefly returned the following December, but one sole World Cup race made it clear she was still suffering.

It was subsequently decided that her problems probably originated from myocarditis in 2007.

The German Ski Association made it clear that she would be welcomed back whenever she sees fit.

“We do expect her to return eventually,” women’s head coach Thomas Stauffer said.

“Then we will determine if she needs a special training schedule.”
