Captain Ben Herd is set for a fresh one-year stay with Aldershot

Aldershot manager Dean Holdsworth has spoken of his delight at retaining the services of captain Ben Herd amid interest from npower League One sides.

Herd was made a new one-year offer by the Shots with his current deal set to expire this summer and has opted to stay with the club.

Holdsworth told the club's official website: "Ben's been a solid captain, he handles himself well. I want him to lead the team and I want him to grow even more. We want the take the club to another level."

Herd has made over 130 appearances for the club and was ever present last term, missing just one match.

The 27-year-old joined Aldershot from Shrewsbury in 2009 having graduated from Watford's youth Academy.
