Holger Rune made it 15 wins in 17 European indoor hard-court matches this season as he upset 10th seed Hubert Hurkacz at the Paris Masters as the “winning team” continued to, erm, win.

Fresh from lifting the Stockholm Open trophy and finishing runner-up at the Sofia Open and Swiss Indoors, Rune took out three-time Grand Slam winner Stan Wawrinka in the first round in Paris Bercy on Tuesday and followed it up with 7-5, 6-1 win over Hurkacz a day later.

The Dane’s antics during his victory over Wawrinka did not go down well with the former world No 3 as the Swiss reportedly told the 19-year-old during the post-match handshake: “My advice to you is that you stop acting like a baby on court.”

However, the teenager’s mother and manager, Aneke Rune, has hit back at the comments

“It is hard to imagine that a sportsman like Stan would have said that,” she told Denmark’s TV2.

“Then he would come across as an uncommonly bad loser. Holger has only mentioned that he wished him well with the results of the past weeks.”

There were also some comments about his mother and coaching situation after his win over Wawrinka.

“They just sit there tho, Runes mum think she is some sort of coach for him and she keep pointing and doing gestures during the game. Idk i dont think its good for him but what do i know,” someone commented on Twitter.

But the retort from the teenager was brilliant.

don’t worry . We know what we do,” he wrote.

That “winning team” got another W under their belts as Rune was clearly not bothered by what was or what was not said by Wawrinka as on Wednesday he ended Hurkacz’s hopes of qualifying for the season-ending ATP Finale.

The Dane himself broke new ground with the victory as he is into the third round of an ATP Masters 1000 event for the first time.

Rune, who has reached a career-high No 18 on the back of his recent form, needed just over an hour to beat Hurkacz, breaking in game 11 of the first set and in games one, three and seven of the second set.

Up next is Andrey Rublev after the seventh seed brushed aside John Isner 6-2, 6-3 while the winner of that clash could face world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard, though, has to get past Grigor Dimitrov first.
