Holly Holm Motivated to Steal Ronda Rousey's Historical Thunder at UFC 193

Every time women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey fights, she’s setting records and making history. She was the first female fighter to be signed by the UFC. She’s the first Olympic medalist to hold a UFC title, the first women’s UFC champion, has collected more post-fight bonuses than any other female fighter and holds the record for the fasted finish in a UFC title fight with her 14-second submission of Cat Zingano at UFC 184.

While Rousey has set the bar for female fighters to aim for, her UFC 193 opponent, Holly Holm, is chasing her own bit of history.

“I want to be the first person, not just female, but male or female to be able to have a title in both boxing and MMA. That’s a ton of drive for me,” Hold recently said during the UFC 193 press conference in Melbourne.

Boxing is not MMA, but Holm’s 38 bouts of boxing experience can’t be ignored.

“I do have a background in boxing, but there’s so much more to MMA than that. As much as I’m so blessed and I loved my career in boxing, this is still very different. There are a lot of things in boxing, habits in boxing that I had to let go of coming into MMA,” explained Holm.

“Mentally, and a lot of things that I’ve gone through with fighting some of the best in the world in boxing has helped me build that confidence and be able to deal with coming in as an underdog, coming in with everything that I have. I need to come and prove myself,” added the 33-year-old.

Facing Rousey in the UFC 193 main event, Holm will already make history. Strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk puts her title on the line in the co-main event against Valerie Letourneau. It’s the first time that two female fights have headlined a UFC pay-per-view event.
