Hollyoaks' Diane faces ultimatum over Tony and Edward
Hollyoaks spoilers follow.
Edward Hutchinson has sprung another trap in order to win his daughter-in-law Diane away from son Tony in Hollyoaks.
The sinister doctor (Joe McGann) has spent months manipulating his son into believing he is a danger to his family, including fooling him into believing he had a brain tumour and then drugging him with testosterone.
Last week, he even convinced Tony (Nick Pickard) to angrily refuse Diane's (Alex Fletcher) request for him to move home, under the guise that he would actually be protecting her and the children.
Monday's first-look episode seemingly saw Edward's plotting foiled again though, as Diane confessed that she wasn't ready to give up on her marriage to Tony.
Edward was then forced to take even more drastic action when he found Tony picking a fight with Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas) in the village.
Warren wouldn't take the bait to fight Tony, though he warned Edward: "I'd put him on a leash before someone really hurts him!"
With Warren out of the way, Edward shared some "disturbing news" with his son — he showed Tony pictures that the children had drawn of monsters.
"This is me, isn't it?" Tony gathered.
Although that wasn't the truth, Edward once again lied by telling Tony that the children see their father as monstrous. In reality, the doctor had prompted the kids to draw the monsters.
"I've damaged them all enough," Tony admitted. "It's time for the monster to go."
Later, Tony called Diane to the restaurant, where he'd set up the place for a romantic date — only, Edward was there too!
"The date is for you and the man you deserve to be with: my dad," Tony announced, to his wife's shock.
Diane was furious, demanding to know why her husband was "abandoning" her and the kids. Tony tried to explain that he was just "trying to do the right thing" — and his father could give Diane everything he couldn't.
"What era do you think you're living in? You can't just pass me around," Diane tearfully insisted.
Edward interjected to say that Tony's sacrifice was "coming from a place of love", then insisted that they shouldn't let emotions cloud their judgment.
"You're a good man, Edward, and you kept me going when I was at my lowest. And I'm not going to lie, I do have feelings for you," she said. "But I'm married to Tony, and although things have changed, I still want to be with him."
Edward refused to take no for an answer, leaving Diane questioning whether she wanted to commit to her "past" or her "future"?
