Real Madrid star Dani Ceballos has explained why he hopes to face Liverpool again in the Champions League this season. The Reds claimed a 2-0 win over the Spanish giants on Wednesday night thanks to goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo.

Arne Slot's team moved a step closer to securing automatic qualification to the last-16 of the competition with the victory over Madrid. Liverpool are the only club in the Champions League this season with a 100 percent record and five wins from their opening five league phase fixtures.

There could have been more goals for both Liverpool and Madrid on Wednesday evening. Kylian Mbappe had a penalty saved by Caoimhin Kelleher, while Mohamed Salah also missed a spot-kick in front of the Kop.

Ceballos, who had a spell with Arsenal earlier in his career, spoke about the challenge that Liverpool handed Madrid during the game. The 28-year-old went on to offer a warning to the Reds as he seeks revenge for the defeat in the Champions League this week.

"I think it's a reflection of the only team that got 15 points in 15," Ceballos told TNT Sports Brasil. "It's a very complicated stadium [Anfield], but I think we competed for a large part of the match.

"The best version of Real Madrid is yet to come. I hope we meet [Liverpool] in February or March."

Liverpool still have three league phase fixtures left to play in the Champions League this season. Lille will travel to Anfield to face the Reds, while Slot and Co. still have away trips to Girona and PSV Eindhoven in the competition.

Should Liverpool finish in the top-eight of the Champions League then they would skip past the play-off stage and wait for their last-16 opponents to be confirmed. With Liverpool at the top of the league phase standings, Madrid are currently in 24th place with just six points and nine behind the Reds.
