Watford look set to stand by Troy Deeney despite his jail sentence.
The striker, 24, was sentenced to 10 months in prison in June having pleaded guilty to the charge of affray following an attack on a student outside a nightclub.
A statement on the club's official website read: "Watford FC acknowledges the recent public apology issued by Troy Deeney (on Wednesday).
"The club can confirm it is now in discussion with his advisors, with the intention to discuss Deeney's future directly with the player himself upon his release.
"Given the remorse demonstrated by Deeney, both in court and through his public apology, Watford FC is hopeful of reaching a resolution that allows the club to support the player through his rehabilitation while he continues his playing career with the Hornets.
"No additional individual comment will be made by any club officials at this time."
