Horse racing - Enable and Dettori win Arc for second straight year

(Reuters) - Frankie Dettori rode odds-on favourite Enable to a second straight victory in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe after fending off a late charge from Sea of Class at ParisLongchamp on Sunday.

John Gosden's four-year-old filly became the first British-trained horse to win Europe's top middle-distance race twice and the eighth dual winner of the continent's richest contest.

Enable hit the front two furlongs out but Sea of Class rallied to finish second by a short neck, with last year's runner-up Cloth of Stars third at the redeveloped Longchamp.

"It was my 30th Arc and I was more nervous than ever, not to mention excited, but in the race I found myself in a fantastic spot," Dettori, who won a record-extending sixth Arc, was quoted by the BBC.

"It was almighty pressure on all of us - everybody wanted her to win and I had to get it right. It would be very naive to say that I wasn't nervous."

Enable missed a lot of the present campaign due to injury after last year's win at the temporary Chantilly venue but made an impressive comeback with victory at Kempton last month.

"She wasn't at her best today. But she got the job done and she's a wonderful filly," said Gosden.
