Lethal Force in Ascot 2013

Lethal Force broke the 6f July Course track record set in 1999 by Stravinsky to repeat his Diamond Jubilee Stakes defeat of Society Rock in consolidating his status as Europe's top sprinter.

"I didn't steal it at Ascot and this horse is a machine, a hell of a horse," said Adam Kirby. "He doesn't have to front run. he is uncomplicated and has a high cruising speed.

"We got into a beautiful rhythm, everything was going nicely to plan. Just after the two [furlong pole] he lost all his concentration. When I gave him a smack he jinked and nearly slipped because he wasn't expecting it."

Kirby had earlier landed the Banbury Cup on Field of Dream, whose late charge caught out the much-fancied Es Que Love.

Kirby made sure the six-year-old recovered strongly in the final furlong to recover four lengths on Es Que Love, who was forced to settle for second.

Kirby said: "He's a funny horse in that he needs holding up but he needs to go between horses to deliver his challenge as he pulls up when he hit's the front. He loves this fast ground."
