Elaine Burke’s horse was barely given the time of day by punters and bookies but William Buick managed to bring him home despite a difficult start.

Trading Leather was second with 11/4 favourite Indian Chief third after a poor start.

The Middleton Stakes was won convincingly by favourite Dalkala, who came home a length clear of Ambivalent.

Ladys First, who started well but faded, held on to third.
