The Richard Hannon-trained horse was made to work for victory after Integral hit the front from a furlong out, but Sky Lantern upped the tempo to win by a length.

Integral finished in second with Duntle sneaking third ahead of early leader Elusive Kate.

Although seven runners contested the race it was billed as a bitter duel between Elusive Kate and Sky Lantern. Elusive Kate had been accused of hampering the fast-finishing Sky Lantern at the recent Falmouth Stakes – although Hannon’s appeal that day was rejected.

"She was very good today and she deserved that,” Hughes told Sky Sports.

"She stumbled once or twice in the race and she was totally asleep, but at the three-pole she came alive.

"My only worry was not getting involved with Elusive Kate again, but luckily enough she drifted just after I quickened."
